The Morwell Innovation Centre is a cutting-edge facility designed to unite education, research, and industry within a collaborative hub in regional Victoria. A joint initiative between Federation University, TAFE Gippsland, Gippsland Tech School, and Latrobe City Council, the centre showcases modern design and functionality across co-working and multi-use spaces.

L&T worked with Unios as their key lighting manufacturer to deliver a tailored lighting solution that blends innovation with warmth, featuring custom hexagonal pendants, architectural linear lighting, and timber-accented LED details that reflect the building’s forward-thinking yet grounded design.

Morwell Innovation Centre

  • The lighting brief for the Gippsland Hi-Tech Park Innovation Centre focused on delivering a modern, energy-efficient system that could serve a variety of functions across the building.

This included general lighting for workspaces, feature lighting to highlight key architectural elements, and adaptable lighting for shared and presentation areas.

A strong emphasis was placed on integrating the lighting seamlessly into the design aesthetic, particularly in areas using natural materials like timber and stone, while ensuring the flexibility to accommodate future changes in layout or use.

  • L&T was engaged for our ability to deliver premium architectural lighting that balanced performance with design intent.

The project team, led by Williams Ross Architects and Becon Construction, needed a lighting partner that could provide lighting solutions for a variety of space types, each with different functional demands, while reflecting the centre’s progressive identity.

Our access to high-quality products and track record of collaboration on complex builds made us a natural fit.

  • Working with lighting brand Unios, L&T developed a complete lighting solution tailored to the centre’s diverse needs.

We supplied a range of products to provide the right level of functional requirements while ensuring the lighting made a statement that reflected the cutting-edge facility.

This included sleek linear surface-mounted fixtures, track lighting and recessed LED strip throughout.

The lighting scheme softened the building’s high-tech aesthetic with timber finishes and thoughtful detailing, ensuring both functional illumination and visual warmth across working, communal, and presentation spaces.

  • The completed centre sets a new benchmark for regional innovation hubs, with lighting that enhanced both the architectural design and the user experience.

Functional yet inviting, the lighting design supports a wide range of activities, from quiet work to community events, while reinforcing the centre’s identity as a place where forward-thinking ideas are nurtured.

The project stands as a testament to what thoughtful lighting can achieve in supporting education, enterprise, and community engagement.
