Jackalope Hotel on the Mornington Peninsula is a bold reimagining of luxury accommodation, brought to life by Carr Design Group, VCON, and Wood & Grieve Engineers. Lights & Tracks was engaged to deliver creative, technically refined lighting solutions that would elevate the hotel’s dramatic architecture and immersive atmosphere.

From the illuminated 7-metre Jackalope sculpture to the floating cellar and softly lit guest rooms, L&T worked closely with all project partners to translate a visionary concept into a multi award-winning reality.

Jackalope

  • Designed to be as bold and unconventional as it is refined, this was an opportunity that the L&T team embraced wholeheartedly.

Conceived by Carr and delivered by master builder VCON in collaboration with Wood & Grieve Engineers, the project was ambitious to create a world-class hotel experience that pushed architectural and aesthetic boundaries, including lighting.

The brief called for creative lighting solutions that would enhance the hotel’s dramatic, moody atmosphere while delivering technical excellence throughout.

  • L&T were selected for this exclusive project for our reputation in a collaborative approach to projects and our proven ability to deliver technically demanding lighting solutions without compromising on creativity.

Our long-standing relationships in the industry, including with leading designers Carr, positioned us as a trusted partner to interpret and realise the ambitious design vision.

Our flexibility, onsite commissioning support, and deep technical expertise made us the right fit for a project where every detail mattered.

  • At the entrance, the team lit the iconic 7-metre Jackalope sculpture by Emily Floyd with a continuous halo effect.

Adjustable, high performing in-ground luminaire where selected to light this masterpiece. The outcome required to be meticulous and fully resolved, working onsite alongside the artist to commission the lighting.

Equally rewarding was the transformation of the “floating” cellar from 3D render to a reality, working closely with all the teams to overcome technical challenges. The lighting outcome was sublime.

Internally, light was used to create a warm and dramatic ambience, from the signature corridor with discreet strip LED lighting, to the highlighted architectural ceilings in guest rooms using soft, indirect cove lighting.

  • The projects success was a result of collaboration at it’s best. The outcome was visually striking, technically refined, and emotionally connective.

The lighting enhanced every experience within the hotel, from the dramatic arrival to the serene guest rooms. It has become one of its longstanding legacy and talking point to all those who visit and experience the hotel.

Jackalope went on to win multiple awards, including the 2017 LIT Design Award for Hotel & Restaurant Lighting and Gourmet Traveller’s Hotel of the Year.

The project stands as a testament to what’s possible when visionary design is matched with thoughtful, expertly executed lighting.
