The Nest

An innovative end-of-trip facility in Melbourne’s CBD

Located in the hustle and bustle of 367 Collins Street Melbourne, in a building that was formerly the Commonwealth Bank’s headquarters, this end-of-trip facility is nestled in the underground basement of the building. Named after the Level 33 nest of the building’s resident falcon, this cleverly converted bank vault has been transformed into one of Melbourne’s premiere facilities.

Woods Bagot’s design approach combined portions of existing architecture with a modern, state-of-the-art facility. L&T’s selection of luminaires was a crucial component of the design, in a challenging environment with no natural light.

Innovative underground lighting solutions

L&T worked in conjunction with Next Generation Electrical to select luminaires that would give maximum effect in a space with no natural light whilst enhancing the design of the slatted ceiling and work with the challenging twists and turns of the basement architecture.

Suspended cylinders and suspended LED linear lighting were effectively used throughout the facility, with panels installed into the patterned ceilings of the change room areas to give a skylight feel to the sub-ground space.
